While this is primarily a blog about model railroading, each of us particiaptes in our hobby within a wider world.  If we're lucky, that world is one that we can share with friends and family.  So on March 27, my wife and I completed another scratchbuilding exercise - our daughter Marcella was born.  Mom and baby are doing well, I'm doing lots of house rpojects (she was 3 weeks early), and the framing for sections 2 and 3 of the layout sits in the basement gathering dust.  In the end, whether she tolerates my trains ( as her two older sisters do), or she embraces them, at least she will grow up in a house where she sees the model railroading hobby practiced.

My daughter was born on Feb 17th.. I sympathize with the dust on the layout stuff. I am only just now getting things going again.

Best wishes

2 boys, one 11 years and one 20 months.  The little one and I sat and watched the latest video contribution from The CNJ Bronx Terminal earlier today.  He said "cool" alot.  My oldest and I are just embarking on a new layout together.  Two fledgling MRR's here! :o)

Hey, great new little daughter, kcs

Congratulations on the new addition, kcs!

Is this your first? If so, our first was a girl as well - she's now in her 30s and building a great career as a professional photographer. Here's our daughter, Tana (on the left):

In fact, Tana now has three kids of her own - so here's a photo Tana took of our three grands (you can see her photographer flair ... this is no ordinary snapshot of your kids):

Our grandson calls me "grandpa trains" and he's crazy about model railroading ... our son (Tana's brother) wasn't all that interested in trains, but boy our grandson loves them! So it skipped a generation ...

WOW

Joe,

That photo is simply awesome!  What great looking kids/grandkids!  You must be bursting with pride.  I knew Tana was your daughter...she has done some video work for you I believe.  I thought I saw Patty's smile.

Here are my two.

Great looking projects

Those are great looking projects. But most of us have done those with more than a little help from our wives.

My wife and I have three sons of our own. The oldest is married he and his wife have 3 girls and two boys. Son # 2 is getting married in late August and will probably have some of his own. But I can tell you one thing. They're cute when the are young but then they grow up and learn to talk (and take your car and never fill up the gas tank when they're done with it) and it goes downhill from there.

But as a wise man once said: Granchildren are much easier to deal with because when you've had enough you can send them home.

Different Scales...

LOL, that's a good one Nick!

My two projects are 11 years and 21 months.  Still the best things I'll ever do with this lifetime...

Thanks for all the Great Work

Clearly, we're all just as enamoured of our kids as our hobby - and that is how it should be.

My older daughters are 13 and 11, so I've been working on this for a while.  Neither of them are currently train buffs, but they do have train sets, and have been to a lot of train shows with me.  Maybe some day they will pick up the hobby, maybe not.
