%20track.JPG In keeping with my commitment to myself to work on the layout every week, I have finished the track laying on Section 1.  If you recall from my first post, the main line is code 83 Atlas flex track with Atlas and Peco switches.  I have glued the track to the cork with no-VOC caulk, and the cork is also glued down to the pink foam with the same caulk.

The oil refinery goes to the rear in this shot, and it's track is Micro-Engineering unweathered code 55 flex track with Atlas code 55 switches.  These tracks are glued directly down with my caulk.  I have made a short transition track with runs down from the raised main.  It turns out that if you solder it carefully, you can solder code 55 on top of a railjoiner for the code 83, and it lines up pretty well.  I have a little filing to do, but it seems to be working now.

Here's a slightly closer shot.  That's as far as I have gotten, construction wise to date.  I spent some time this AM doing locomotive testing, and I have several bad order locos I need to attend to.  I will be doing other house projects this weekend, but I have all the plywood and foam I need to start on the benchwork for Section 2.

Have a great day railroading!

New Layout

I am glad and happy for you on your progress !!  Looking great!  Keep it up. What you are doing is a lot more motivating than a "diet" for a New Year's resolution. I'm with you also. I spent the New Year's working o my layout also.

KEEP IT UP !!!!!

More than an alcove?

Phil (I assume that's your name from your username),

So far all I've seen in benchwork is that section in the alcove - based on the track, can I assume that the layout will extend out of the alcove around the wall at the front right (from our view) corner of the current benchwork?

Just trying to build up a picture mentally.

One word of minor warning - I've discovered that using Sharpie's on foam results in lines or writing that will bleed through an amazing number of coats of paint....

Track Plan

Could you post a copy of the trackplan you have hanging from the benchwork.

From what I see on the trackplan, it looks like the layout will extend down the wall to the left and around a corner down another wall.  If that's the case, how do you plan on switching your current section, a cassette, or...?

That benchwork looks very solid!
