So now that all the benchwork is largely complete, I am working to tie in a switching yard that I inherited from a good friend.  This yard will be a stand in for the KCS Baton Rouge yard, and replaces the two track fiddle yard I had in this location.  And yes, all the stuff of the filing cabinet stays - the household COO has mandated it's continued storage.  I plan to put a small plywood shelf over teh yard with some under cabinet lights to help se ethe end of the yard:

The idea is to run the yard lead through a typical Louisiana cypress swamp scene to hide it's lack of scale distance from the Exxon Refinery/Polyolefins plant as well as to bring a signature habitat type to life.  Plus the idea of building cypress trees in N scale appeals to me.  The general area where the connection is to be made is here:

The turnouts above are part of a track laying experiment trying to create a crossover in the yard lead to aid in operational issues.  By switching the connection to the straight through leads, I ended up with this, which was a quick proof of concept, not the finished design:

Then we started building the bridge.  The proof is in front - the actual stringers are in back:

and finally some trestle bents take shape:

All of this is a necessity, of course, since the switching yard is getting full

Qyestion about your manual turnout controls

In the second picture it looks like you are using the hump yard manual turnout throws.  How do you like them?  Any issues?

Thanks,

No Issues

John,

I've got four of them installed on this side of the layout and no issues so far.  The best way I've found to make them work is to bend a bell crank out of the extra steel wire he send you and use that to throw the drawbar on the tunrout.  THis is all N scale, so the throw distance is really small.  Other then that just follow his directions.

Coming together

So here's a bit of an update - the trestle is in,and while the Bayou needs a bit of grading work to get it aligned (or maybe slightly shorter bents) I think it will actually work well (the turnout on the one side of the bridge not withstanding).  The two JTT "Pines" are stand ins for some cypress trees I want to put here - and I may just get some JTT cypress trees instead of rolling my own.  They won't be cheap, but they will be easy.  Now, to figure out how to hang some Spanish moss.
